Turtle Protection
Turtles, one of the oldest living species in the world, are an age old symbol of wisdom and stability in many cultures. Today all eight species of turtles are currently threatened or endangered, after surviving a 100 million years of existence on earth.
The Kemp's ridley (Lepidochelys kempi) is the smallest, most vulnerable and endangered of all sea turtle species in the world. The entire population nests on the Mexican beaches along the Gulf of Mexico. Ocean Trust is working with Mexican and US scientists to restore these turtles by protecting the Kemp's ridley nests and turtle hatchlings. With continued effort the turtles may be removed from the endangered species list in the next five to eight years.
You have an opportunity to help support the restoration of this population through the Release-A-Hatchling program with Ocean Trust. For every $10 tax deductible donation made Ocean Trust will release a hatchling in your name or the name of family members or friends.
